Some musicians think it’s better for them to work in a group, therefore they formed a band, but some think it’s better to sing it out alone, then we got a soloist. For this week, we got one of the freshest and the finest soloist, He is Dan Croll. Dan Croll is a British singer-songwriter based in Liverpool. Dan Croll’s passion in music was firstly brought up when he was a kid. His mom is a fan of Jazz and folk music and he learned to play piano because of his sister. At age 16, he started writing some songs. When he turned 17, he decided to pick music as his career, and he hasn’t stopped making music since then. Because of this passion, at age 18 he moved to Liverpool to attend the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) which was founded by Sir Paul McCartney. Whilst building his degree, he joined a national songwriting competition which the eight winners will have a chance to get a 101 music lesson with the founder, and Dan was one of them.

In 2012, Dan signed to Turn First Record, then in September of 2012, he launched his debut ‘From Nowhere’. By the time when his debut single was launched, this song started filling a slot to be played at a prime-time show in UK’s radio stations. Dan’s music is pretty much full of experimental sound, as he likes to create some interesting sound from his toys and also an African rythm, especially on his second single ‘Compliment Your Soul’. The Guardian also labels his music as a channel of Paul Simon. In July of 2013, he released his latest work, ‘In/Out’. Dan’s inspiration when he’s recording music is from musicians like Beirut, Metronomy, Dirty Projectors, Feist, Grizzly Bear, and a few others. Most of the songs that Dan wrote is about his life experience, he also said ” These songs, it’s almost like a mixtape of my past two or three years so it’s all a bit different, but hopefully it’s got a bit of a charm about it.”

Dan’s huge passion and a great skilll in songwriting are his best facets. You can jump around when you listen to his songs or even start reflecting some old memories. Either you’re a fan of pop music, folk, electronic sounds, or even african rhythms, Dan Croll always knows what’s best for his music, and what you find from his music is a perfect balance in an intriguing proportion.

Alongside Miles Kane as his tour member, London singer-songwriter Eugene McGuinness finally released his third album ‘The Invitation to The Voyage‘ under Domino Record . Collaboration of a genius quirky with well known producers such as Clive Langer (Elvis Costello, Morrissey, Madness) and Dan Carey (MIA, Hot Chip, Santigold), this album definitely are one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2012.

McGuinness has become a phenomenal since his self-titled album in 2008 and received positive reviews from many medias such as Drowned in Sound, NME, and BBC. In the following year, with his brother he began to start a new band called Eugene + the Lizard with ’Glue’.

The Invitation to The Voyage contains ten songs, starting with Harlequinade which have a bit of 80s tunes and slice of rock and roll that matches withShotgun. As you listen to Lion, you can hear the charismatic side of McGuiness and probably the strongest song that can describe his British vocal character. For the last song he use Japanese Cars, an up-beat and catchy song filled with innuendo, which probably is about a topsy-tervey night out with the wrong people and suffering the consequences.

Over all this album gives a nice touch of disco synth and new wave sound, which makes your feet reluctant to stop dancing while listen to it.

On July 2005, it was announced that the games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012 will be held on the city of London. Now, for about 6 years after the preparation, London are almost 100% ready for celebrating this event and welcoming people from all around the world. We hope the riots last week, doesn’t affect much on this preparation. The committee chose Wolffolins, as the theme and the design, to make the branding for the event that could make the Olympic and Paralympic Games more relevant, accessible and inspiring than ever.

The logo itself symbolized deliberating spirit and unexpectedly dissonant, echoing London’s qualities of modern, edgy city. They hope it can be recognizable enough for everyone to feel and to be part of London 2012. They have revealed the medallions, which created by British artist David Watkins, who is an established artist in the field of decorative art and they will go into production in late 2011 at the Royal Mint’s headquarters in Llantrisant, South Wales.
