Trying to adapt one of the most prestigious F. Scott Fitzgerald’s books with bunch of high profile actors has alreadymade this movie as one of the must seen movies, but to add the list with the high profile musicians for the soundtracks, I must say Baz Luhrmann is pretty much a go big or go home kind of man.

Taking Jay-Z onboard as an executive music producer and Anton Monsted as a music supervisor, they managed to roster artists from across Universal Music Group’s labels, Beyonce to Lana Del Ray, The Fergie to Florence + The Machine, Bryan Ferry Orchestra to The XX and to Jack White, which we all can assume although the story is set in the ’20s, but the musics are most definitely not, well okay maybe if they blend to the future.

We all have our own favorite movie soundtracks, from Star Wars to Nick and Norah to Les Miserables, so can this be our next most favourite movie soundtracks? Lana Del Rey, among the artists who wrote songs for the picture, is the first out of the blocks. Her “Young and Beautiful” was released ahead of the album, which arrived on May 7, and is being used in its trailer along with “Over the Love” from Florence & the Machine. As myself thinks that Fergie, Q-Tip, and GoonRock’s “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” is perfect to summarize the flamboyance Jay Gatsby, not to Beyonce and Andre 3000′s cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black,” it’s too dramatic the essence of the song makes no connection with the movie itself.

“..And the story is so relevant to today we wanted music that would have the spark that jazz would have had in the 1920s..” – Luhrmann

The tracklisting for The Great Gatsby standard soundtrack is:

’100$ Bill’ – Jay-Z
‘Back To Black’ – Beyonce x Andre 3000
‘Bang Bang’ – will.i.am
‘A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)’ – Fergie + Q Tip + GoonRock
‘Young And Beautiful’ – Lana Del Rey
‘Love Is The Drug’ – Bryan Ferry with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra
‘Over The Love’ – Florence + The Machine
‘Where The Wind Blows’ – Coco O. of Quadron
‘Crazy In Love’ – Emeli Sande and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra
‘Together’ – The xx
‘Hearts A Mess’ – Gotye
‘Love Is Blindness’ – Jack White
‘Into The Past’ – Nero
‘Kill And Run’ – Sia

The New Yorker MS MR will be famously patched on every girl’s (or maybe boy) tumblr page. If you are a ‘Judge a book by its cover’ person, first thing that will be out from your mouth after catching some glimpse of MS MR is “This is another hipster band”. Pop out with a quirk sense of fashion, filtered photos, and tumblr-esque artwork, MS MR will definitely attract the typical bunch of listeners. But hey, they are actually pretty commercial. And. Something that will surprise your expectations. They are signed with Sony in the US.

The story of how this duo was formed is simply caused by an unfinished project. MS (Lizzie Plapinger) and MR (Max Hershenow) were a friend but were not a close friend. In college years, Max was a producer for a band which had not even started or even close to that word. And as they graduated. The project turned out into ashes. Later then, having a fiery skill to produce a music, Max e-mailed Lizzie and asked her (Lizzie runs a record label called Neon Gold Records) for an artist that he could develope. So Lizzie, who happened as an artist too, decided to work with him and develope music together. The reason of why they decided to be quite anonymous. Because they want their music to be judged fairly and easing the subjective opinion from the listeners. Since Lizzie is being well known in the industry.

The chillwave/glitch-pop/gloom rock tunes from MS MR will be easily received by Florence + The Machine’s fan or Lana Del Rey’s. Quoted from Pitchfork “A little more sashay and they’d be Poliça; more rapture and they’d be Florence; throw in some trolling and they’d be Lana (Del Rey).”. The duo have released their E.P titled “Candy Bar Creep Show” on September 14 2012. And it was released via Tumblr. The ep consists of four tracks, they are “Bones”, “Hurricane”, “Dark Doo Woop”, and “Ash Tree Lane”. Their debut single “Hurricane” get good critics from the reviewers and complimented that the song has the enchanting vintage sound. Their latest single , “Fantasy”, which was released on February 4th 2013 has received more that 500.000 views and mainly giving a good feedback. The duo’s full album (and also debut) will be released on May 14 2013 with a title “Second Hand Rapture”. Who says that Tumblr can only give you unique pictures with acid colours on it? It can give you a good music too.
