Early this month, we experienced world of music at Esplanade’s annual Mosaic Music Festival, and for their 9th year they brought more variety of line ups from multiple genres and cultures. From international acts like Grammy Award winning jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding and soul crooner Joss Stone, to ska veterans Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and world music performer Salif Keita, from progressive indie band Grizzly Bear to the latest elctro princess Grimes, everything we can enjoy in 10 days of travel around the ‘big durian’.

The first act we saw was the progressive rock band, comprising Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen for vocal, drummer Christopher Bear and bass guitarist Christ Taylor. For alternative music listeners, this is one of the band you can’t be missed and since they are not playing in Indonesia we thought we have to come to see them. Playing most of their tunes from their fourth album Shields including “Yet Again” and “Sun in Your Eyes”, the band entertain us with super lightning effect and soothing vocals that you can hardly hear the difference from the record. After Grizzly Bear and on the same day but different stage, we also catch the quircky cute Grimes. Even though the crowd were more into the fashion kind of sense then the artis herself, but with her fun acts and hits, the two sold out live acts brought everyone to dance with her ‘Visions’ as the second day of the festival ended.

The thing we like from music festival like this is how we can see some supports for the local acts, and appreciation by combining it as one of the ‘most things to do’ when you’re visiting Singapore. They scattered the acts around Esplanade, and not only giving great performances from Singapore own musicians but also International known acts so everyone can feel the enthusiasm of the festivals for locals and tourist around the area. Not to mention some cool local acts such as The Mighty Mighty, Hariz & Lincoln, Bright Young Things, Tabitha Nauser and other young jazz musicians.

For the second weekend, we catch this Denver married couple Patrick Riley and Aliana Moore’s at Mosaic Club stage, playing indie pop tunes from their debut album Cape Dory and second release Young and Old, they also introduces us with their new songs “Teena Marie” and “Dimming Light” which are more of an up beat and spring feel kind of songs. Even though over all wasn’t quite a punched act as we expected, but it was a nice way to spend the weekend with your friends before going else where, and we thank the festival for that. Anyway, it was our first experience traveling around here, and surely as we are now expanding ourself here to Singapore music scene, we hope to see more of what Esplanade can offer next on their calender event.

the 1st day opening is around 4.30 pm. And about 2 hours after the gate opened, JIEXPO Kemayoran was successfully crowded. The audience must be very exiting about the event. From local acts to international acts. for the local acts on Day 1, they had Maliq & D’Essentials, they had the beautiful Raisa, Bonita & the Hus Band, Calvin Jeremy, Tribute to Utha Likumahua, RAN, Andien and many more local acts was worth to be seen.

And for international acts, they had Noon from Japan, Clarke/Duke, Jimmy Cliff, Magnus Lindgren with Gregory Porter, Balance and the Traveling Sounds, José James and of course many experienceworthy musicians.

Especially with Joss Stone‘s performance for the special show act, from Hall D2 the Djarum Super Mild as a main stage. Joss started to perform at 11.00 pm. As the first day special show, she was definitely special. why?because the crowd was so passionate to her and had a good interaction with Joss Stone. she sang some of her hits at the begining and without a doubt, it made the crowd to be more enthusiast.

There were some surprises and some unexpected things, because there was actually a space between the crowd and the stage. There were 2 spaces from the stage to the audience; from stage to media pit to the space between media pit and to the crowd. But With Joss Stone initiative, she asked the crowd to get closer to her stage, well like the other concert that has a separator fence between stage and the audience. With thus initiative the crowd succesfully getting closer to Joss Stone and the show has become more exiting.

It didn’t stop there, because there was a little acidents in Joss Stone’s performance, Accidentally, Joss Stone’s dress got its strap unhooked (which definitely will be such a wardrobe malfunction) but she immediately grabbed her upper dress with her hand and kept holding the mic with the other hand. This wardrobe malfunction made Joss Stone giggling all the way around while she was singing. Then after tha, One of her backing vocals stepped forward and gave his jacket to Joss. “What a nice gentlement” said Joss regarding her backing vocal’s reaction. while performing, she was giving an interactive performance with the audiene, and she was being that until the end of the show. Despite of the little accidents that happened to her, Joss Stone’s performance was undeniably amazing. To close the curtain, she threw some roses to the crowd! How locvely was that!

The excitement was not over yet, because Maurice Brown was still performing at Hall A3 BNI Stage as the last perfomer for Day 1 of Java Jazz Festival 2013. and the crowd seemed totally entertained.

For those of you who missed the amazing performances, No need to cry down a rivber! Because Java Jazz Festival 2013′s Day 2 still has another great jazz acts to be shown!
