Being third on the list of BBC’s New Sound 2010 just below two eminent female..

Being third on the list of BBC’s New Sound 2010 just below two eminent female artists from the UK, Ellie Goulding and Marina And The Diamonds, Delphic proves that they come nothing short ofthem at their first Malaysian-staged concert held on the 1st of May where they gave it all with songs from their albums “Acolyte” renowned for chart-toppers like ‘Doubt’ which is highly credited for elevating the Delphic name to a whole new level, “This Momentary”, along with songs from “Collections”, their latest album which was released in early 2013. With all this being said, much is too be expected from their live performance here in KL.

What better way to start a new month with a concert and nothing is better than Delphic which is well-known for their alternative-dance style.Opening the show was local talent that is nothing short of amazing (not to be mistaken with the greenpeace movement though) Kyoto Protocol! As an upcoming alternative indie rock band of Malaysia which a resume that boasts their countless performances as the opening act for an impressive streak of International acts such as MGMT and We The Kings, they make the perfect fit to warm the crowd up just before Delphic comes to stage. At ten-to-nine, Kyoto Protocol took center stage with such panache psyching the crowd after performing their hit “Never know” that Delphic would come on but NO! They progressed with performing their new hit single “KL I love you” and ended with chart-topper “Give Me Nothing”.

The night progressed and the crowd has been pumped up just enough to get their dancing shoes ready for the highlight of the night, Delphic. The quartet of a band consisting of James Cook, MattCocksedge, Dan Hadley, and Richard Boardman (might I add that they all look like they came casino online right out of Lookbook) went up with such dapper style and opened with their new hit ‘Baiya’ from their latest album. The second they started performing the crowd went wild and they continued with such energy till the end of the set. The band really got the crowd’s attention by alternating songs from their new album and their hit freshman album with “Halcyon”, “Red lights”, and some from their new album “Mameo” and “Of the young”. Throughout the whole set I personally couldn’t shake off the feeling that the lead (Cook) looks ridiculously handsome and had a vibe to him that reminded me of Morrissey of The Smiths, from the way he swung his hips and to the way he flipped his hair. Maybe it wasjust a Manchester thing that I don’t now about. Another interesting point to note was that the rest of the band also had their own signature moves going on, with Matt and his awkward but lively footwork, and Dan with his intense head nodding.

Aside from the unfortunately poor audio quality with the overpowering pitch from the guitar and Boardman’s microphone being a tad too soft, the night as a whole met my expectations. At the peak of the night, after the lights went dim (as requested by the band) they hit it up with their cherry to our already-indulgent sundae, “Doubt”! Oh hot fudge-cakes, this performance was beyond mind-blowing that gave us this intense rush of emotions permeating through the floor. These people really don’t hold back when it comes to performing live. Right after, they announced their set over (BOO!!!) but only to come back on stage (what a tease!) to perform“Clarion Call”, their adieu to the whole show. Well, there they were on stage in Kuala Lumpur for their very first time and as the cat-calls indicated, the crowd loved them. Delphic definitely gave their well-acclaimed 5-star live performance that Brits and Asians(and everyone else) truly love. (Zafran Aqil)

For those who grew up with British music scene in Indonesia, they must’ve known that these sentences above are associated with The Stone Roses’ long-awaited gig in Jakarta. The Stone Roses, who have officially disbanded in 1996 and resurrected in 2012, have delivered a mind-blowing gig to these British rock fans.

The venue, Lapangan D Senayan, had turned into a muddy venue with a massive crowd of Manchester United fans (Brown and Mani from The Stone Roses are proud red Mancunian) and a group of fishing hat enthusiasts (Reni, the drummer of The Stone Roses are widely known for his signature fishing hat, known as Reni Hat in the UK). They came together to celebrate the resurrection of The Stone Roses. As part of the Madchester era, The Stone Roses are major influence for some of the world’s greatest bands, such as Oasis. So that’s why their resurrection has attracted thousands of people all over Indonesia (and Southeast Asia) to come to Lapangan D Senayan.

They went on stage at 8.35 PM and started the gig with an iconic bassline intro of their 1989 hit “I Wanna Be Adored” and the crowd responded with a massive sing a long session. Mani and Squire are in duty for bringing the thumping melodies, meanwhile, Brown and Reni entertain the crowd with their drums and tambourine. “Mersey Paradise” and “Sugar Spun” followed afterwards.

The crowd began to sing their hearts out when The Stone Roses’ brought 2 of their hits back-to-back, “Sally Cinnamon” and “Ten Storey Love Song”. They also brought us the awesome 9 minutes track “Fools Gold” and “Waterfall”. Their stage was equipped with a huge LCD screen to entertain crowd’s eyes with perfect visualizations. The sing-a-long session continued when they played “Made of Stone”. Ian Brown was able to control the crowd and let them sings the chorus with their hearts out. They closed the set with “She Bangs the Drums” and “I Am The Resurrection”, followed by a jam at the end of “Resurrection”. And then they left the stage with a smile after Brown kissed the Manchester United flag (followed by chants by some avid Manchester United fans) and ending the show with a bang! Despite there are no encores, the crowd didn’t seem to care. They have finished their holy session with their god-like idol from the U.K., so there it goes, some sentences at the beginning of this writing came from their mouth.

We know many fans of The Stone Roses in Indonesia felt so upset when the band didn’t make it to Jakarta and did Singapore instead in July 2012. But should we scatter the confetti now? Because the legendary band from Manchester will be heading to Jakarta next year! The band who consist of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield, and drummer Alan “Reni” Wren, have oficially confirmed will have a show in Jakarta on February 23rd 2013. Flux and Play declared that the band will drop by to Indonesia first before they do a tour in Australia. And another great info is Indonesia will be the only country in South-East Asia that will be visited by them. The concert will be held at Lapangan D Senayan, Jakarta and there will be 1 (one) class only, so you don’t have to worry for some barricades at the arena.

The Stone Roses were formed in 1989. In their golden era, The Stone Roses achieved many triumphes from NME. And until today, The Stone Roses are named as one of the greatest british bands that gives an influence to the industry. The Stone Roses previously announced in 2011 that they would be doing some reunion shows after having a 15 (fifteen) years of hiatus and ready to break the mould in 2012. Their show at Heaton Park broke a record as the fastest ticket selling, more than 200.000 tickets were sold just in 68 minutes. Among the 4 (four) members of The Stone Roses, Ian Brown came to Indonesia in 2010 and performed with Kula Shaker. Thankfully next year he will be with the rest of the band. Let’s do a choir of The Stone Roses’ hits in Jakarta next year! (Alcander Alonzo)
