17 Rad Moments That You Missed at Laneway Festival 2014 in Singapore
Even though it has already been 2 weeks since St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Singapore. But still, we can’t it over that day yet! As we are putting something different to cover of what happened this year, we have highlighted seventeen best moments that we did experience at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival this year!
1. Laneway SG team: kudos to the team for organizing everything so well: third stage, lines at the entrances, toilettes and more sitting areas. Everything was perfect that day even the weather!
2. Crowds at Vance Joy: chill vibes while sun beating down on us and the band singing “you’re loved, you’re loved.” Is this the best way to start the day yet?
3. Everything about Youth Lagoon: not to take it so personally (but it kind of is), we can’t deny Trevor Powers’ performance how powerful it was, not to mention his pink socks, and the bassist’s super long epic facial hair!
4. Bands and fans: we spotted Frightened Rabbit, Vance Joy, bassist and guitarist of Youth Lagoon, Savages, and Haim came out from their safety areas to meet their crazy lovely fans!
5. Kurt Vile was ‘So Good At Being In Trouble’: we know that it’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra song but what happened is that during UMO was playing the song, Ruban Nielson, the front man had to stop singing and said “Hey, you!” to Kurt Vile to make his loud soundchecking stop.
6. Hipster outfits: just like the previous years, too many awesome outfits by all the hipsters from all over Southeast Asia to be seen.
7. H&M: big thanks to H&M for giving us free water, ice-creams and tote bags. Laneways goers seemed to like taking photos at the H&M photo booth as well. We really loved this collaboration!
8. XXYYXX: the Cloud stage area was super packed. I couldn’t help myself but staring at Marcel Everett and thought what I was doing when I was 19. I’m sure a lot of people who knew his age felt the same way.
9. The local acts: Vandetta got the early birds at Cloud stage singing along to a cover of “Come As You Are” by Nirvana. The Observatory, the one and only Singaporean act that got to shine on the main stage, and we would love to see more of the local acts next year!
10. Elena Tonra of Daughter showing her happy tears: good job, people! Daughter fans made Elena impressed so much she couldn’t bare but let the happy tears out after crowds singing along to their famous song, Youth. This is every impressive and so emotional.
11. Powerful Savages: these masculine women were so cool. It really doesn’t matter how Jehnny Beth’s hair is way too short or how aggressive the band looked but they absolutely represented women of our generation, strong and powerful!
12. Haim, not hype: too much loveliness for this band. From what I observed, they got the most audience, looked very spontaneous being on stage. Loved it when Alana dared her sister to dance and when they took a crowd selfie for their grandma.
13. Jamie XX on fire: with his electronic grooving set that got everyone moving, plus very thick smoke during his performance, these combos totally made Jamie being on fire!
14. Chvrches fans: seeing so many people from Cloud stage running their lives to Roscoe stage to see the band as close as they could is an impressive thing to see and I’m not sure how many times I overheard “Lauren is so cute!”
15. James Blake’s magic: he sounded just like the record but more alive. Pretty sure his music spelled us that night, I saw a lot of people closing their eyes and dancing slowly, included me.
16. Many F&B stalls: no more worries if you would get starved or wait for the lines for too long. This year’s Laneway provided us a lot of variety of food and drinks. Is there anything better than listening to the music you like and eating good food at the same time? I hope not.
17. Not so Laneway in Singapore but more like Worldwild: this was the third time for us to attend Laneway in Singapore. As far as I can tell, everything got bigger each year, venue, stages, especially crowds, not only Asians from Southeast Asia countries joined the fest but also Caucasians, they just could be seen everywhere!
Surely, there will be more awesome moments to be experienced in 2015. LanewaySG team always keeps us surprised and thank you so much we love you for that. Do you know you’re the best music festival in Southeast Asia so far? Much love and see you all next year! (Text : Nette Kosit / Pics : Alvin – Afiq Omar)
