Album Review: Arc by Everything Everything

Arc is probably the best album so far I’ve listen to this year, although their first single “Cough Cough” has been released August last year, I knew it’s gonna be something good. Last week we finally be able to listen to this Manchester’s band second album, and as I said earlier, it does sound good!

Who are they? Everything Everything released their first single “Suffragette Suffragette” on December 2008 through XL Records, followed by “Photoshop Handsome” on the following years, where all the two videos were made by the band themselves, which then brought them to nominated on the BBC Sound of 2010, where they compete against big names such as Ellie Goulding, Marina and the Diamonds, and fellow Manchester band- Delphic. After gaining some respect, the band released their debut album Man Alive on August in the same year through  Geffen Records, which later on recieved high praise form the BBC, and even shortlisted in Mercury Prize in 2011. Their debut album as far as I can say, was one of the commercial indie kinda music, where – you know, most of hipster kids would love. The songs are fun to be say, good to use as a breakthrough artist, but not as something you would be fancy about. If you listen to Alt-J or Egyptian Hip Hop to Django Django, then you will mostly like to listen to Everything Everything.

So how’s this sophomore album goes? I have to say that they are pretty much became more mature to know what they want to do with their music. When “Cough Cough” out last year, its actually sounded like another tunes from Foals but in a good danceable way, where everyone likes to hear it. They surely still have the riot making sounds though, which as shitty as every indie music can be, where listener- to be honest, doesnt have a clue what are they talking about, but yet it still sounds so good you just want to listen to it.

Their second single “Kemosabe” will be the song where you can hear their upbeat rock tempo and in which a little bit like their rebel kids sounds – but less hyperactive. However, beside those rebelious pop songs, the band also give listeners another slower balad rhythm like songs from “_Arc_”, “The Peaks”, and if you looking for like a normal tempo songs, you can listen to “The House is Dust” and maybe also in “Torso of the Week”. Surely they still have to work out on some tunes and making a less idiom drama of indie music, but I believe if they decide to make another album it will not only be a good music but can be something greater.
