Neon Lights Festival, another new major music & art festival is back in Singapore just in days count. The first of its kind in Singapore, and taking its cues from the world’s greatest music festivals, Neon Lights will illuminate the historic Fort Canning Park on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November with a rich and vibrant music and arts programme encompassing international and local music, dance, theatre, comedy, art & design installations, spoken word and children’s workshops.

Built on an uncompromising philosophy of collaboration and community, the inaugural annual festival will run from 1pm till late each day, and will incorporate every nook and cranny of Fort Canning’s three main outdoor event spaces – Fort Green, Fort Gate and OMSQ. Neon Lights promises a premium multi-disciplinary, multi-sensory experience for everyone, regardless of age or interest, set across six stages – Neon Lights Stage, Neon Gardens Stage, Club Minky, Cloud Factory, Lit Up @ Neon Lights and Easy Street.

The first 16 acts of a superbly eclectic music line-up are released today. Handpicked from over 10 countries across 5 continents; Neon Lights’ headliners are the legendary hit-makers USA’s CHIC feat Nile Rodgers – one of the most influential producers and prolific musicians in the history of popular music – and multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Ireland’s Damien Rice who will play his first Singapore show in nearly a decade.

Brilliant cult mavericks USA’s Mercury Rev make their long-awaited return to Singapore right off the release of their latest album and upbeat party acts Flight Facilities from Sydney and New Yorkers Ratatat will play their first-ever shows here.

Other acts making their first trips to Singapore include legendary UK shoegaze trailblazers Ride, the hypnotic Songhoy Blues from Mali, Mancunian world-fusion DJ Mr Scruff and the Asia premiere of Kiasmos – the groundbreaking new audiovisual electronic project from Iceland composer and pianist Olafur Arnalds; who needs no introduction to Singapore audiences – his last trip here in 2013 saw him sell out two nights at the Esplanade Theatre. Kiasmos’ show will be preceded by Swedish techno demi-god Axel Willner aka The Field.

The Neon Lights and Neon Gardens stages will showcase a stellar music line-up spanning genres and decades, blending international stars with local heroes, including sensory rockers Hanging Up The Moon. Also on the Neon Lights bill so far are cool punk-meets-bossa-lounge act Nouvelle Vague from Paris, gifted Japanese multi-intstrumentalist Shugo Tokumaru, introspective indie folksters USA’s Sun Kil Moon and Singapore’s Bennett Bay, and the new queen of dream pop USA’s Julia Holter.

Families with kids will be entertained by the interactive sideshow, circus, comedy and cabaret performances at Club Minky, followed by children’s wearable art and movement workshops by MySuperFuture at Cloud Factory. For fans of the spoken and written word, Lit Up @ Neon will be a literary treat with performances, readings, panel discussions and interviews.

The holistic festival will feature three distinct performances each night at Cloud Factory by some of Singapore’s most innovative sound, video and performance artists, all curated by Noor Effendy Ibrahim, former artistic director of The Substation and Teater Ekamatra. Also, attendees will get to participate in a live street art and culture celebration on Easy Street curated by Recognize Studios and Sideshow, alongside the breakbeats of hip-hop artists and scratch DJs.

Eleven more sleeps to Future Music Festival Asia 2015 (FMFA15), and if you’re heading down to the Changi Exhibition Centre for Southeast Asia’s largest music festival, here’s what you need to know (and do).

YOUR WRISTBAND IS ALSO YOUR WALLET:

After going through security, you will be tagged with a RFID wristband. Besides controlling access, your wristbands can also be topped up with cash and used to purchase drinks at the bar. Don’t have cash on you? Don’t worry you can also top up wristband credits using your credit card. This essentially reduces waiting time in queues to purchase your drinks. Simply place your order, tap your wristband against the reader, and you’re done. Wristbands can be topped up at various Top-Up Stations around the festival site. But for greater convenience, you can also pre top-up your wristbands today even before the festival begins via http://topup.gorillatix.asia. Pre top-ups are only available from now till 9 March 2015.

*If you are a Weekend (2-day) Pass holder, you will only be tagged with one wristband on Day 1 and you will have to keep the same wristband on for Day 2.

Joining the worlds best such as Avicii, Afrojack, Fat Boy Slim and Knife Party are several home-grown acts, such as DJ Aldrin and Rave Republic, alongside the godfather of electronic dance music, Giorgio Moroder, New World Punx and Hip Hop legends Public Enemy

SINGAPORE: The organisers of South East Asia’s largest music festival, Future Music Festival Asia 2015 (FMFA), Livescape Singapore and Future Music Group Australia today announced the full line up for this year’s star-studded music festival.

As part of the Festival’s aim of showcasing top-notch musical talents worldwide, FMFA’s full line-up will comprise an eclectic blend of critically acclaimed artistes:

These world-class acts will be performing across three stages for the heart-thumping two-day Festival, which is set to take over Singapore’s 140,000-square-metre Changi Exhibition Centre, from 13 to 14 March, 2015.

Having attracted over 55,000 people from 85 countries at FMFA 2014 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, its debut in Singapore is expected to be quite the spectacle.

“Singapore was the obvious destination of choice, because we recognize its value as an international hub and up-and-coming center for music and entertainment in South-east Asia. With Singapore’s vibrant calendar of world class events, and exceptional infrastructure, it was only natural for it to be FMFA’s next home,” Muhammad Iqbal, Group Chief Executive Officer of The Livescape Group said.

“We have never spared any expense in offering our loyal fans the best event experience they can get, and we aren’t about to stop now. In addition to the star-studded cast of international, regional and local acts, we also look forward to having a few more little surprises in store for all festivalgoers on-site. With this, we are well placed to create a truly memorable, world-class event to commemorate our Singapore debut, and in keeping with this country’s aim of becoming a world-class entertainment destination,” Iqbal added.

SUPERNOVA – THE MAIN STAGE

For the first time in South East Asia, FMFA will also be working with world-renowned stage designer, James Klein (www.jameskleinevents.com) to curate its main stage, dubbed the Supernova Stage. James Klein has previously worked on the stage designs for the likes of Ultra Music Festival and Sensation. The multi-storey Supernova Stage at FMFA 2015 will be one of the largest South East Asia has ever seen and is especially customised and built specifically for the festival. The stage includes never before seen pyrotechnics and visuals and extensive giant LED screens.

GETTING THERE

Bearing in mind FMFA’s location in the Far East, organisers will be providing free shuttle services, which will ferry revellers to and from a soon to be announced location within the city centre at 30-minute intervals either way. This will take place throughout the entire duration of the festival with at least 40 – 45 forty-seater shuttle buses on standby. Aside to this, GrabTaxi has come on board as the Official Taxi Partner for FMFA 2015 and will be operating a taxi booth at the entrance and exit points of the festival grounds to assist festival-goers in booking their taxi rides. GrabTaxi will also be offering special discounts to all festivalgoers that book a ride using the GrabTaxi app and the promo code “FMFA15”.

CARNIVAL WITHIN A FESTIVAL

To add to the spectacle of the festival, several carnival elements will be introduced to ensure revellers get a holistic experience. Several carnival rides will be set up including a Carousel, Bumper Car Ride, Gryospin Ride, Meteorite and a never before seen in Singapore, Stage Dive. Also there will be sections where partygoers can rest and recharge with hammocks and bean bags which will be located close to an extensive food village which will feature some of the best food operators from Singapore, Malaysia and even Thailand.

FOR A GREATER EXPERIENCE – PRIVATE CABANAS & THE FIRST CLASS ARENA

For those looking to take their party experience to a different level, they could literally do so with the VVIP Private Cabanas going at SGD10,000 each for two-days. These elevated cabanas apart from providing an aerial view of the festival grounds and a fantastic view of the main stage comes with a 250 sq. ft. private area, access to the cabana for 15 people, private bars, private toilets and 4 bottles of liquor with mixers for both days.

In addition to this there will also be a VIP Lounge – The First Class Arena – which features an elevated terrace and lounge that overseas the Supernova and Future Live stages. VIP tickets are priced at SGD388. This VIP Lounge will act as a club within the festival and is indoors, air-conditioned, and also includes its own private toilets. Also there will be a variety of exclusive services in the VIP Lounge such as bottle service, foot massages and even food catering.

SECURITY, SAFETY AND MEDICAL SUPPORT

As an internationally acclaimed and award winning festival, FMFA has a zero tolerance drug-abuse policy. For the festival this year, even tighter control will be implemented to discourage drug abuse among the festivalgoers. An international team from highly experienced organizations, which include the following, are involved in the planning of the festival:

They will be working closely with EventAid in curating a world-class medical plan at FMFA. www.sgambulance.com.sg

Event Security Specialists (Singapore) – ESS is a private security firm that provides professional security solutions in Singapore and throughout Southeast Asia. ESS will be working closely with SightCon to develop a world-class security plan for FMFA. www.ess.com.sg

Collectively, the above mentioned companies who are working hand-in-hand to manage and execute the security, medical, safety and drug prevention plan for Future Music Festival Asia 2015, have over 50 years of experience in managing similar or larger scale events.

We have to admit that our under the radar’s #TheNextBigThing didn’t feature a lot of newcomers this year. But, no worries, Just because we got it paused for only featuring five bands, it doesn’t mean we are not going to showcase the best newcomers in 2014! Last year we listed ten new bands and for this year, as an apology to the lack of numbers that we feature in #TheNextBigThing, we are featuring twelve new bands (or those names who are having a breakout career) in 2014. Whoop!

1. Darlia

The band who are hailing from Blakcpool but now are a Manchester-based rock band. Darlia consist of three members, they are Nathan Day (vocals), Dave Williams (bass), Jack Bentham (drums). In 2013, they launched their debut E.P, ‘Knock Knock’. Most of the riffs ftom their songs will revive you to Nirvana, which you can clearly hear in their song, ‘Queen of Hearts’. It’s really hard not to find their music has a major influence of Nirvana’s, and a bit of reminiscent to Queens of The Stone Age’s. Darlia may sound like a mixture of modern age of Nirvana or Queens of The Stone Age, but they are surely going to resound the guitar music to be on track. Their bass-line, thrashy drums, and also addictive raspy roar that comes out of Nathan’s voice are the things that will make them go big and hard to forget.

2. Sam Smith

As he starts walking on his music. He is mostly known for his work with Disclosure on the duo’s ‘Latch’. The song hit the music charts, and it prominently places Sam Smith’s name on the map. Samuel Frederick Smith who was born in Lincolnshire got his vocal’s power by getting a singing lessons with local jazz singers, and the lessons definitely did a charm to his musicality, it can be heard on both of his early works with the Lawrence brothers and Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’, and also ‘Stay With Me’. Sam Smith is totally a real deal in this year of horse. As in 2015, he’ll be competing with some of the well-known musicians in Grammy Awards. And music critics predict he’ll repeat the success of Adele.

3. Glass Animals

Glass Animals are an Oxford quarter consist of Dave Bayley, Drew MacFarlane, Edmund Irwin-Singer, Joe Seaward. The band started gaining the limelight with their indie elctronic, R n’ B, and psychedelic infusion, and everything hit the bar when Paul Epworth scouted them. Glass Animals’ music will remind you to Alt-J and Radiohead. With a smooth and tingling sound, you’ll be taken afloat to their hallucinating grooves. Dave’s gentle vocals also drive the ambience that does not sound over powering but strong. To make some contraries, the Oxford-based band sound so elusive with their RnB influence but the drums make their music sounded traditional, in a good way. Their songs like ‘Psylla’ or ‘Gooey’ has a sentimental mood in an addictive tune, it is weirdly good which will keep you in a replay mode, the only thing that we can think of from their musics is a slow trippy dancing.

4. Eagulls

Eagulls emerge as the ones to watch with their post-punk music and the genuine vocals that we really hail because we find them as a more rock version of the Cure. In March 2014, they launched their self-titled debut album. The album is opened by a raw intro, with a fierce bassline that will constantly remind you to the other post-punk bands. They may sound darker, but Eagulls deliver a music that totally will satisfy post-punk music fans. Their amazing adrenalin rush sounds give a tight melody and a great combination of a loose noise.

5. Radkey

“After the Strypes and the Orwells, the latest teen rockers causing a stir – and completing the trio you need for a scene” – That is the main line from Guardian about this new impeccable trio which instantly caught our attention. The trio consists of The Radkey Missourian brothers, Dee Radke (guitar, vocals), Isaiah Radke (bass, vocals), Solomon Radke (drums). It’s clear, when the first we listen to their E.P, Devil Fruit, each track rips our ears with their fiercy 90s style punk. The young punks are totally bringin out some great influences from Who, The Misfit, and Ramones. All of the ominous, incendiaries, and rock n’ roll vibe, storm out from Radkey and their music blows everyone’s mind. Little bit prejudice, they are surprising us with the genre that they are embracing.

6. Chance The Rapper

Chancelor Bennet a.k.a Chance The Rapper would be one of the first your favourite hip/hop arists if you are not a fan of hip/hop. Chance’s music is giving the easy listening hip/hop which you’ll find very easy to sing along. Chance The Rapper likes to reflect himself as the new nigga in the hood with his music, and it’s his second mixtape ‘Acid Rap’ which brought him to the surface. He always puts various elements in his music, such as gospel, blues-rock, and juke. As a result, his album was listed in numerous music lists by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and NME, which leads to him major recognition, even Kanye West (one of his musical influences) reckons Chance’s music will be a big hit in the hip/hop industry.

7. Banks

The trip-hop R&B music has been mushrooming in the last one year, and it causes some boredom for the music listeners. However, Banks the Californian singer and songwriter, create a new taste with her music. In 2014, Banks have been drummed as one of the ones to watch, she also came third in BBC Sound of 2014. Banks is presenting a mysterious-dark pop with a RnB influence and also inspired by James Blake’s dubstep. What differ Banks from the other female vocalists who also bring a dark-core music is Banks gives a significant quality about her music. Evenmore, most of her emotional songs are not manufactured because of the mushrooming trends amongst the other female vocalist, she reflects her songs from the frustration that she experienced when she was introduced to music at a very young age. Banks, whatever you do, you do it with a big bang.

8. Frankie Cosmos

Frankie Cosmos a.k.a 19-year-old Greta Kline has released over 40 albums and EPs on Bandcamp. But all she needed in her debut studio album was 10 songs and 20 minutes to win us over with her profound tales about love, ageing, and her dead pet dog. Hiding behind a mask of indie-pop jangly guitars lies tongue in cheek lyrics so rich that it could fill a song five time as long. Her sugary sweet voice and melodies disguising the darkness of her words as she innocently sings on about her hatred towards everybody in her town. Earning herself a top 10 spot on Pitchfork’s list of best new artists, and even beating St. Vincent in Vulture magazine’s list of top pop albums of the year.

9. Jungle

It’s almost unheard of to find a band playing in all of UK’s biggest music festivals without prior releasing a debut album or EP of sorts. Jungles, however, is that rare gem that caught the attention of the world with the release of just one single. Their first single, “The Heat”, introduced the world to Jungle’s unique infusion of wildlife noises into funky tropical percussions and immediatelysecured them a spot at the iTunes Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, and even the coveted Glastonbury festival.

10. Sampha

Some of you may know him from his collaboration with British post-dubstep artist, SBTRKT. But Sampha’s got something bigger than his signature lush vocal and soothing voice. Sampha Sisay as known as Sampha is an electronic music singer-songwriter and producer from Morden, South London, United Kingdom. He reached the airwaves after his work on SBTRKT’s debut album back in 2011. He also worked with Solange Knowles, Drake, Katy B, and other notable artists. Sampha is known for his soothing voice, which we could barely hear on some SBTRKT’s hits such as “Hold On” and “Something Goes Right”. Royal Blood is a British rock duo band whose sound is reminiscent of, and rooted in, modern garage rock and blues rock. Singer/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher make up the band which released its debut single Out of the Black, with a B-side called Come On Over. This was followed by their second single, Little Monster, in February 2014. A month later, they released a four-track EP, featuring Out of the Black, Little Monster, Come On Over and Hole. Their debut album, Royal Blood, was released on 25 August 2014 to commercial success, and was well-received by critics. It was verified by the Official Charts Company as the fastest-selling British rock debut album in three years in the UK.

12. FKA twigs

English singer-songwriter and dancer, Tahliah Debrett Barnett, is FKA Twigs. Before all these accolades came to be, Twigs was an independent singer who self-released her music. Now, she released debut album through Young Turks in August 2014. The record titled LP1. The british musician is likened to eclectic musicians, such as Bjork, for her approach to music. With an originality sense of music, FKA twigs is praised by NME and Pitchfork for her successful in making a music that is filled with her whole identity.

Avicii, The Prodigy, Afrojack, Fatboy Slim and Knife Party tops the bill alongside a host of other big names for Southeast Asia’s largest music festival, Future Music Festival Asia 2015 which will be held at the Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore from 13 – 14 March 2015

SINGAPORE: The organizers of Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA), The Livescape Group and Future Music Australia today announced its biggest line-up yet for next year’s massive festival. The festival will take over the 140,000 square-meter Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore from 13 – 14 March 2015 with an estimated 50,000 fans expected to converge over the two-days.

Slated to be Southeast Asia’s largest music festival ever, the organisers take cue from the success Future Music Festival Asia has obtained over the past three years and promises more punch and a cosmic show that will seal FMFA’s position as the region’s premier music festival.

Over 50,000 revellers are expected to attend the festival over two days next year of which, organisers are expecting an influx of over 10,000 music tourists to specifically make their way into Singapore for FMFA. According to the organisers, the festival has plans to stay in Singapore for the long term and has set itself a target to become Asia’s largest music festival within the next three years while targeting a 20 per cent year-on-year growth in its number of foreign attendees. In the past three years where FMFA has been held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the festival has played a significant role in driving music tourists into the country by attracting over 30,000 foreign fans from across 85 countries and generating over RM120 million (SGD46 million) in tourist dollars. Singaporeans, Indonesians, Thais, Australians and Europeans formed a majority of the festival’s tourists with the brand also having a significant following in the other parts of the world.

Brett Robinson, the Director of Future Music Australia said, “I believe we have got a phenomenal line-up and I don’t think Southeast Asia, let alone Singapore has ever witnessed a gathering of musical talents in a single event of this proportion and scale. So to the fans, I urge you to please get your tickets early. We’re expecting a sold-out show and we really don’t want to have to disappoint you because I promise you, next year, Future Music Festival Asia 2015 will be the biggest music event to happen in this part of the region”.

“It has been our vision to bring to music punters in this region a massive music experience that resonates long after the festival is over. This is our first steps in making that vision a reality by presenting our biggest line-up to date. From the US to Indonesia to Singapore, music lovers are crossing out their calendars for the coming festival and we can only get better from here on. This will be the largest music festival in Southeast Asia and we guarantee it will be a mind-blowing two-day event”, Brett added.

In terms of the entertainment value of the festival, the organisers are promising an event to remember. “If you look at our last three years, we have always spared no expense in ensuring top notch entertainment value for the fans. We understand how important it is to ensure that they get more than what they pay for. After all, FMFA wouldn’t be where it is today without our amazing fans. So we know we have got an expectation to live up to”, Iqbal Ameer, Group Chief Executive Officer of The Livescape Group says.

“For 2015, FMFA is quite simply going to be our biggest yet with multiple mega stages, world-class sound, lights and stage production and huge star power. Today’s announcement is just the tip of the iceberg, and fans can expect even more big Pop, Hip Hop and EDM names when we announce our full line-up in January. So in true Livescape fashion, expect some pleasant surprises. We’re expecting to unveil a total of over 50 international and regional acts on our bill. In addition, with Changi Exhibition Centre as our new home, we are confident that we will be able to curate the biggest music playground this region has ever seen”, Iqbal added.

The Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) sits on a sprawling 30-hectare site along Singapore’s eastern coastline complete with sea views. With a combined indoor and outdoor area equivalent to 14 soccer fields, CEC is a well-equipped venue ideal for a music festival the size of Future Music Festival Asia.

“We are delighted that the Changi Exhibition Centre has been chosen to host Southeast Asia’s largest music festival, Future Music Festival Asia. It is the ideal location for what will be the biggest gathering of music superstars and music fans from Singapore, across Southeast Asia and beyond. With its expansive space and breath-taking seafront location, festival-goers are in for a truly enjoyable and unforgettable experience as we are sure that The Livescape Group and Future Music Australia will be transforming CEC into an impressive magical music playground,” said Mr Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director of Experia Events, which owns and manages the Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore.

Unlike other festivals in the region, FMFA also maintains its position as a cross-genre music festival with its past editions having featured not just Electronic Dance Music (EDM) acts but also some of the biggest names in Pop, Hip Hop, Indie and Rock. The organisers are expecting to announce its full line-up in January 2015.

Future Music Festival Asia, which thrilled crowds of over 55,000 in March this year, has been dubbed as the largest music festival to ever hit Southeast Asian shores. It is an internationally acclaimed and award winning festival that originates from Australia. Future Music Festival Asia in Singapore will take place from 13 – 14 March 2015 at the Changi Exhibition Centre and is organised by The Livescape Group and Future Music Australia.
