280 Festival Stole the Attention

After 12 years the Irish trio ASH returned to Jakarta. It was 280 Festival who made the dream come true for ASH hardcore fans. Before Tim, Rick, and Mark kick the stage, there are six local heroes – The Aftermiles, Rock N Roll Mafia, Maliq & D’essential, Neonomora, Sierra Soetedjo, and Efek Rumah Kaca – Pandai Besi.

The Aftermiles and Rock N Roll Mafia were the first two band who opened the first cross-genre festival. Even though there still a few people at Lapangan D Senayan, The Aftermiles and Rock N Roll Mafia still gave their best. Around 4 PM, people started to gather. Some still enjoyed lying around on green grass field while the other rushed themselves to catch Maliq & D’essential. Angga and the gang started with ‘Heaven‘. Maliq & D’essential successfully managed to entertain the audience with nine songs from their old albums to their latest ‘Setapak Sriwedari’. The climax was when they performed ‘Drama Romantika’, people began to wiggle their body. Maliq & D’essential closed their set with their hits ‘Terlalu’.

After a Maghrib break, Neonomora with her powerful voice and folk-rock music drew more people into the festival arena. ‘Fight’ was the first song that she sang on 280 Festival’s stage. She enchanted the audience with another eight songs including her single ‘You Want My Love‘. Sierra Soetedjo was lovely. Her beautiful voice and the soothing sounds of her band cooled down the stage after Neonomora burned it on. She performed some of the cover work such as ‘Especially For You (MYMP)’ and ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (The Police)’. This jazz singer also sang her hits ‘The Only One’.

Efek Rumah Kaca and their alter ego, Pandai Besi, went on stage, people immediately flooded the front row. Efek Rumah Kaca and Pandai Besi performed nine song in medley. Pandai Besi presented ‘Menjadi Indonesia’, ‘Di Udara’, and ‘Laki-laki Pemalu’. When Cholil sang ‘Cinta Melulu’ and ‘Balerina’ the crowd started to sing with him. They closed their set delightfully with ‘Desember’.

The long-awaited, Ash, finally entered the stage with their song ‘Meltdown’. The crowd went wild as the intro of ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ began. Mark played his bass vigorously. Tim with his Flying-V guitar started sang the first line of ‘Girl From Mars’ from their album ‘1977’. This song also included as the first track of their ‘The Best Of’ album. ASH brought their fans back to the 90’s with their hits such as‘Oh Yeah’, ‘Shining Light’, and ‘Kung Fu’. People sang their hits louder. 280 Festival was ASH last gig for 2013. After 21 years of experience ASH really knows how to serve their avid fan, with four encore songs ‘Lose Control’, ‘Angel Interceptor’, and closed the magical night with ‘Burn Baby Burn’.

For a first timer, 280Festival successfully delivered a festival which totally gave a festive vibes to the local audience. From the local stunner, Neonomora, to everyone’s favourite, Maliq n D’essentials, 280 Festival has paid their debt to get everyone’s attention. We just can’t wait to see how the next chapter of 280 Festival will turn out. One thing for sure, it’ll get the attention.
