Musician Fathers and What Their Children Do!

There’s a good indonesian proverb that visualizes of what our article is about, “The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree”, it means what your parents do will affect on what you are doing! But somehow, there are so many famous musicians who end up having their children being a brat and doing stuffs that are not close to become a successful human being. Ugh. That’s the word,guys! However, in this one we will take some names who can outshine the names of their fathers and lead the role!

1. Alan Thicke & Robin Thicke

The good fruits came from the good seeds, that is Alan Thicke and his son Robin Thicke. As we know, Robin Thicke has written bunch of songs for the pop-culture divas (like Christina Aguilera) and RnB’s topper names ( Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and  Usher). Where did he get his talents? His father! Alan Thicke is famously know for composing Tv Theme songs such as “Growing Pains”, “Different Strokes”, and “The Facts Of Life”.

2. Serge Gainsbourg & Charlotte Gainsbourg

Serge Gainsbourg was the most influential name who built the pop culture in France. He had created 17 studio albums ( and 3 live albums ). After his death in 1991, Serge left many legacies of his music to french’s music life. He was known for his ability in writing a genious lyrics and his wide range of music’s scope from disco to rock and roll. His daughter, Charlotte Gainsbrought ( from his relationship with Jane Birkin) , also has done major works in the French film industry. She has starred over than 35 movies from 1984 (When she was still 13!).

3. Ravi Shankar & Norah Jones

Are you a fan of the Beatles? If You are, you should know about Ravi Shankar! The late Ravi Shankar was a notable Indian sitar player who influenced the Beatles in adding some Indian cultures to their music. In 1999, he received three Grammy Awards and in 2013, he received two more for the lifetime achievement and the world music category. His daughter, Norah Jones, is a multi Grammy winning jazz musician who exploded in 2002 after she debuted “Come Away With Me”.

4.Quincy Jones & Rashida Jones

Quincy Jones is a legendary producer and one of the most elite names in the music industry. From his second marriage to Peggy Lipton, he has to two daughters, one of them is Rashida Jones. Rashida Jones is a popular tv actress and she has starred some of the box office movies like “The Social Network” (Just for her love life’s record, she dated Tobey Maguire and once engaged to Mark Ronson)

5. Mick Jagger & Georgia May Jagger

There’s no question to ask about the front man of the legendary band, the Rolling Stones. His daughter, Georgia May Jagger, is a runway and campaign sweeper for the a-list brands. In 2009, she conducted a series of self-portraits for a fashion and art magazine, i-D.

6. Gavin Rossdale & Daisy Lowe

Gavin Rossdale was one of the grunge-darling dudes back in 90s, he is a vocalist for a british band, Bush. Or later, we know him as a ska phenomenon’s husband, Gwen Steffanie. His daughter from his brief relationship with Pearl Lowe, yeah it’s Daisy Lowe. Daisy has rocked her names in the fashion industry by booking campaigns like “Marc by Marc Jacobs”, “Louis Vuitton”, “Pringle of Scotland”, “DKNY”, “Mango” and “Esprit”.

7. Gene Simmons & Nick Simmons

The Demon of iconic rock band, Kiss. Gene Simmons or the Demon (if you want to call him as his persona) has sold more than 100 million albums! What a number! And what is his son doing? Nick Simmons is busy creating stuffs on his own league. He is a comic book writer and a voice over actore for Cartoon network’s Robot Chicken.

8.Steven Tyler & Liv Tyler

The front man of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler, has been here and there in the rock music industry. From creating a high qualified piece of music until making idols along with Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson on American Idol. His daughter, Liv Tyler, also has been and there in the block buster’s world. Her name took the peak when she starred Armageddon in 1998 and starred the trilogy of the Lord of The Rings.

9. Paul McCartney & Stella McCartney

Paul McCartney is a legendary writer. He is the reason why the Beatles could produce a very romantic lyrics and the easy listening tunes. His daughter, Stella McCartner, is taking the other path. She is a designer for self-titled label. Her label is one of the fashion house that designed for a luxury clothing.

10. Loudon Wainwright III & Rufus Wainwright

Loudoun Wainwright is a folk singer who established his career in the 60s, not only slaying a Grammy Award on his musical work, he also starred some popular comedy movies such as The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and G-Force. Rufus Wainwright, the son of Loudoun, is an American – Canadian music writer/composer. He has produced seven albums and numerous film soundtracks. His debut album embarked a good record from Rolling Stone magazine, the magazine named his as The Best New Artist of The Year.

11. Eddie Van Halen &  Wolfgang Van Halen

Like father like son! Eddie Van Halen is the lead-guitarist of a hard rock band, Van Halen. His son, Wolfgang Van Halen. In 2006, he became the band’s bassist as the replacement of Michael Anthony. We really think if David Lee Roth decided to quit from the band, another Van Halens will be fitting the space.

12. Ringo Starr & Zak Starkey

The attention for the Beatles is definitely centered on McCartney and Lennon. But, Ringo Starr has made a name for himself. Set aside his musical record cause we know he has done lots and it will take pages if we list his work. He must be so proud for having the only Beatles’ son who can race the track of his achievement. Zak Starkey is a drummer for the Who (since 1996) and during 2004, he joined Oasis. Take that, Sean Lennon.

Now, who says that the famous musicians can only feed their children with money and having them being embraced by their fathers’ names? The names that we are listed are a valid prove of rockstars’ kids can outshine them!
